As times change, so do human values. Today, we are witnessing a new trend called the AI age. Today, I would like to consider the significance of human existence in this AI age.

With the advancement of AI, many things have become automated, and we live in an age in which speed is demanded. We live in an age in which work proceeds without human intervention, an age in which human hands are being removed. On the other hand, we are faced with the question, “Who am I? In a world that is advancing at super-speed with the help of AI, if we do not have a clear answer to this question, we may simply be swept away.

This is exactly what Zen teaches. In Zen, we let go of everything and let the question, “What is myself? It focuses on “What is a human being?” and “What am I?” and “What worldview do I have and how do I act? This is our challenge and value in the AI era.

Our role in the age of AI is to let it do the work, and to operate and manage it ourselves. However, the most important thing we must focus on is self-understanding of “who we are. We must ask ourselves who we are, what we want, and what we want to accomplish, and search for the answers. This is the meaning and value of our existence in the age of AI.

And this question can never be answered in a single answer. It changes, evolves, and deepens every day. It is a question that we should continue to pursue throughout our lives. And the pursuit of that question will be essential for us to take full advantage of the power of AI.

Therefore, in this age when AI is constraining all work, “Zen” will become the most important preference for businesspeople. The question that springs from a state of selflessness, “What is myself?

Some of the jobs that AI will constrain us to do include areas that were once monopolized by humans. But what AI cannot take away is our “self. The core of the ego, that is the answer to the question, “What is self?” and that question is the last bastion we should hold on to.

Herein lies the challenge we face. We must evolve with AI and manipulate its power at will, while never losing sight of our core self. This is where the teachings of Zen come in handy. We can reexamine ourselves by letting go of everything and listening to the questions that arise from within our hearts.

Looking at our core is also the first step toward figuring out how we should view the world and how we should act. This will guide our actions in the age of AI and provide the foundation for deciding what projects to work on and what tasks to carry out.

And I would go so far as to say that the greatest preoccupation of businesspeople in the AI age is the search for “who we are,” and the “zen” of that search.

This is because self-understanding is indispensable for making the most of the power of AI. And for that self-understanding, it is essential to elicit and explore the question, “What is myself?

In the age of AI, we must continue to face the question, “What is myself? Only by exploring this question and deepening our self-understanding can we make the most of the power of AI and become timeless beings. This is the meaning and value of our existence in the age of AI.
