Aspiration and ambition, the fine line that exists between the two words, makes a big difference in terms of how we perceive and shape our work. The work of those rooted in Aspiration is refreshing, and business also encompasses its sustainability. On the other hand, those who cling to ambition eventually run out of breath, and business becomes a dying business.

What is at stake here is a “life shift”-a departure from the labor of ambition and a new path of creating work based on inner excitement and aspiration. Work born of ambition disappears the moment money and external evaluation are lost. But work born of aspiration follows the joy that springs from within, and can continue to do so no matter how much reputation is lost. This is a true life shift.

The times have been transformed by pandemics and the AI renaissance, and values about work continue to change unwaveringly. In this age of 100-year life, we are expected to create work rooted in aspiration, not just ambition-based labor, and to continue to do so for the rest of our lives.

But what does it take to become aware of our aspirations? This is where the role of Zen and mindfulness becomes important. These practices allow people to cultivate an “internal microscope” that observes the emotions and experiences that exist within the self from a fine and precise perspective.

In an age of rapid development of AI and the shifting external world, the practice of Zen and mindfulness is important to look inside oneself and reveal one’s true desires.

For life-shift-minded people, Zen and mindfulness practice can be a beacon of liberation from ambition and a pathway to aspiration-based sustainable business. Aspiration gives us the courage to listen to our inner voice, create work accordingly, and continue throughout our lives.

A true life shift refers to breaking free from ambition-driven work and following one’s inner excitement to transform one’s own aspirations into work. Ambition mediated by money and reputation loses its existence the moment these disappear. Aspiration-based work, on the other hand, is based on the source of excitement that comes from one’s own heart. Even if external evaluation is lost, the karma continues. This is the true life shift, and it illustrates how powerful the power of inspiration is.

Pandemics and the rapid development of AI are changing our perspective on work. In the age of 100 years of life, we must not only work based on ambition, but also create and continue to work based on aspiration through a life shift. This is the challenge the new era demands of us, and it also prompts the formation of new values.

By deepening these contemplations, we will be able to adapt to the new era and achieve a true “life shift. That is the direction we should pursue as we live in this age of pandemics and AI renaissance. Drawing inspiration from within and connecting it to business to create a sustainable future. In the process, we will break free from ambition and come to a true understanding of ourselves through facing our inner self. This is the path to a true life shift.

We are called to evolve our work to be based on our own aspirations, rather than labor bound by external evaluations. This is where the unlimited potential hidden within each of us exists. Drawing out this potential and forming it into our own business is one way to create a sustainable future.

However, this requires a practice based on the teachings of Zen and mindfulness, in which one looks deeply into one’s inner self and listens to one’s own voice. The future of society will be shaped by people who can feel their inner excitement and continue to work according to that excitement, even without external recognition.

Aspiration-driven work is supported by the unceasing vitality that comes from within. It is based on one’s inner values that transcend external evaluation. This is the true life shift.

We pursue a “life shift” in order to respond to the social changes brought about by pandemics and the rise of AI. That means moving away from ambition-based work and toward aspiration-based work. And to continue to do so throughout our lives is what is required in this century of life.

All of this prepares us to live in a new era. It will be a process of forming an aspirational sustainable business and learning to honor our inner voice. This will enable us to achieve a true life shift and promote the evolution of society as a whole as well as our own personal growth. It is this kind of thinking and practice that will be necessary to overcome the challenges of the new era we face.
